Job Description

Key Responsibilities

• Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including product, engineering, and business development, to define API requirements and align with overall product vision, ensuring stakeholder alignment and technical feasibility.
• Ensure compliance with industry standards, best practices, and regulatory requirements related to API design and implementation, such as GDPR, PCI-DSS, and ISO 27001, to mitigate risks and maintain trust.
• Drive the adoption of modern API development frameworks and tools (e.g., OpenAPI, Swagger, GraphQL) to improve efficiency, performance, and maintainability, while reducing technical debt and enhancing developer productivity.
• Establish and maintain comprehensive API documentation to facilitate seamless integration for both internal and external developers, ensuring clarity, consistency, and ease of use across all platforms.
• Monitor, troubleshoot, and optimise API performance to ensure high availability and low latency, leveraging monitoring tools like Prometheus, Grafana, and ELK stack for real-time analytics and proactive issue resolution.
• Mentor and provide guidance to junior developers, fostering a culture of knowledge sharing and continuous improvement through code reviews, technical workshops, and collaborative problem-solving.
• Lead architectural decisions and technical strategy for API products, balancing innovation with operational stability and scalability for global user bases.
• Collaborate with security teams to implement and enforce secure coding practices, including encryption, rate limiting, and authentication mechanisms, to protect sensitive financial data.
• Participate in product roadmap planning to identify API features that align with market demands and business objectives, ensuring competitive advantage and user satisfaction.

Job Requirements

• Proven experience as a Lead Engineer in API development, with a minimum of 5 years in designing and delivering scalable APIs for high-traffic, mission-critical platforms.
• Expertise in RESTful API design principles, including stateless communication, resource-based endpoints, and HTTP methods, with hands-on experience in Python, Java, or Node.js.
• Strong understanding of API security frameworks (e.g., OAuth 2.0, JWT, API gateways) and compliance with financial regulations to safeguard user transactions and data integrity.
• Experience with cloud-native technologies (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP) and containerization tools (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes) to deploy and manage APIs in distributed environments.
• Ability to lead and coordinate API development lifecycle, from requirement gathering to deployment and post-launch maintenance, with a focus on automation and DevOps practices.
• Excellent communication skills to translate technical requirements into business value and collaborate with non-technical stakeholders for alignment.
• Strong problem-solving abilities and analytical mindset to debug complex issues, optimise system performance, and ensure reliability under high load conditions.
• Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines (e.g., Jenkins, GitLab CI) and version control systems (e.g., Git) to streamline development workflows and ensure code quality.
• Preferred: Experience with blockchain integration, smart contract APIs, or decentralized finance (DeFi) platforms to support crypto payment innovations.
• Preferred: Familiarity with API management platforms (e.g., Apigee, Kong) and microservices architecture to enhance system modularity and scalability.
