Job Description
As a Database Specialist, you will be responsible for the comprehensive management and optimization of database systems. This includes designing and deploying robust database architectures, ensuring they align with business needs and technical requirements. You will also oversee the daily operation and maintenance of databases, implementing effective monitoring strategies to maintain system reliability. A key focus will be on developing and executing data backup and recovery plans to safeguard critical information. Additionally, you will manage database security protocols, ensuring compliance with industry standards and organizational policies.
Key Responsibilities
  • Design and deploy database architectures that support scalability, performance, and security requirements. This involves selecting appropriate database technologies (e.g., MySQL, Oracle, SQL Server, MongoDB) and ensuring seamless integration with existing IT infrastructure.
  • Perform routine maintenance tasks such as database backups, recovery operations, and data migration. You will also manage database expansion efforts to accommodate growing data volumes and user demands.
  • Monitor database performance in real-time, identify bottlenecks, and implement optimization strategies to enhance system efficiency. This includes conducting regular health checks and ensuring data integrity across all platforms.
  • Provide technical support to the R&D team, including guidance on SQL writing standards, code reviews, and troubleshooting complex database issues. You will also develop documentation to streamline database operations and improve team productivity.
  • Implement and maintain security measures to protect database systems from unauthorized access, data breaches, and vulnerabilities. This involves configuring access controls, encryption protocols, and audit mechanisms.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure database solutions meet business objectives. You will also participate in capacity planning and disaster recovery drills to prepare for potential system failures.
Job Requirements
  • Proven experience in database administration, with a strong background in designing, deploying, and maintaining relational and non-relational databases. Familiarity with cloud-based database solutions (e.g., AWS RDS, Azure SQL) is a plus.
  • Excellent knowledge of database performance tuning techniques, including query optimization, indexing strategies, and resource allocation. Experience with monitoring tools like Zabbix, Prometheus, or Grafana is required.
  • Strong expertise in data backup and recovery processes, with hands-on experience in implementing automated backup solutions and disaster recovery plans. Knowledge of backup technologies such as Veeam or Commvault is preferred.
  • Proficiency in SQL languages and database management systems (e.g., MySQL, PostgreSQL, Oracle). Ability to write and optimize complex queries, stored procedures, and triggers is essential.
  • Deep understanding of database security principles, including access control, encryption, and compliance with regulations like GDPR or HIPAA. Experience with security tools such as MySQL Enterprise Security or Oracle Database Vault is required.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to troubleshoot database-related issues promptly. Strong analytical mindset to identify root causes and implement effective solutions.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment. Strong communication skills to convey technical information to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Preferred qualifications include certifications in database administration (e.g., Oracle Certified Professional, Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator) and experience with DevOps practices for database automation.
